Trip to Ste. Genevieve County, MO
Good bye Arkansas....Hello Missouri!!!
August 7-8, 2000
Hi Cousins, this is just a rough draft of this page!! But I wanted to get some pictures up so you could see some of our trip. I am sorry to say this was first time I used my digital camera and somehow deleted pictures so do not have nearly as many as I took! As soon as my mom (Freeda) gets her pictures developed I will scan and put here.
First picture is of Sebastian Burtcher's House. As you can see there is siding on the house. It seemed strange to see a basketball hoop in the driveway and a minivan. When I have time I will put history of the house on page.
Second house is The Kiel-Schwent House. This was built by Sebastian and Michael about 1813.
Here is the old Ste. Gen courthouse built in 1821. It was closed both days we were there.
This is Simon Hubardeau House. It is listed as being built in 1789 but the men who work for the State of Mo that restore the homes said it was later than that and that the Butcher's did the stone work. If you look to right side of front of house you can see where there used to be a door that was closed up.
Well we ran and ran for two days and finally made it to the new courthouse where we had 30 minutes before they closed. Here is my mom copying original papers as I lined them up on counter. As Here it is already past closing and we were still not done!
Home again and relaxing on my grandmother's back deck as we go over probate.
