END OF 1st PAGE OF PROBATE

The deceased Michael Butcher in his life time claimed eighty three acres of land or thereabouts lying on the Kaskaskia River near to where Mr. Antoine La Chapelle now resides upon which there is a good improvement, purchased by him of one Jacob Fisher, but the said Butcher has no title papers for said land except a bond given by P. Menard to Ezra Owen and by the said Ezra Owen assigned to Drusella (C?) Owen, from Drusella and Fisher wife of the said Fisher) in which said bond said Menard bind himself to execute a deed _?_ _?_ to the said Ezra Owen his heirs and assigns where ever payment shall be made. Therefore the said Owen nor his assigns the said Fisher never paid the said Menard for any part of the 83 acres claimed by Butcher nor does there appear any payment of said bond by Fisher to the deceased Butcher,or is there any evidence that the said Butcher in his lifetime paid the said Menard anything for the said land. The title is therefore in Menard who claims the land.
Among the papers of the deceased I find a lengthy account made against Pierre Menard for stone work by the perch but the calculations are not made out nor corrected out in the columns_
