Michael Butcher and Pierre Menard

This Indenture made this nineteenth day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight Hundred and Twenty one between Michael Butcher at present in the Town of Ste Genevieve in the County of Ste Genevieve, State of Missouri of the one part and Pierre Menard of the Town of Kaskaskia in the County of Randolph, State of Illinois of the other part witnesseth that the Sd Michael Butcher for and in Consideration of The Sum of Eight Hundred -?- Current money of the united States To him in hand paid by the said Pierre Menard at and before the dealing and delivery of These presents The receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged and confessed, Hath given, granted, bargained, sold, aliened, released and Confirmed and by these presents doth, give, grant, bargain, Sell, alien, release and Conforme unto the said Pierre Menard his heirs and assigns forever, all that certain Tract or parcel of Land lying and being Situate in the said County of Ste Genevieve in the State of missouri aforesaid about Two and a half miles west by north of the Town of S. Genevieve, on the waters of the north fork of Gabouri supposed to Captain, Four Hundred arpens, it being the same Tract of Land where the said Michael Butcher resided heretofore with his family; Together with all and Singular the appartenon as unto the Same belonging or in any wise appartaining To Have and To Hold The Track of Land as abouve described Together with all Singular the rights, members hereditaments and appartenances unto the Same belonging or in anywise appurtouning from him the said Michael Butcher to the said Pierre Mentard his heirs and assigns forever, To his and their only proper use benefit, and behoof and the said Michael Butcher for himself, his heirs, executors and administraton doth Covenant and agree To and with the Said Peirre Menard his heir and assigns that he will warrant and defend, the Title of the Said Tract of Land with its appartenancer unto the said Peirre Menard his heirs and assigns against the Claim of himself the said Michael Butcher, his heirs and assigns and against the Claim of himself the said Michael Butcher, his heirs and assigns and against the Claim of all manner of person or persons whatsoever legally and rightfully, Claiming the Same, firmly by these presents. I also find a note of ancient date (17 June 1818) against said Menard written in French for $437.21 for a balance due to Butcher for a tract of land sold to said Menard by the sheriff of Ste. Genevive County- but from all the information I can get I have no doubt but this note and also account are cancelled as the said Menard claims a large balance from ?Mr? Butcher_ there are no other accounts in favor of the estate that I can as yet discover.
