WILLIAM BLOOM Sr, 1752-1828
William Bloom, Sr. was born in the Rhine Section of Germany on Feb 26, 1752. He was the oldest of the 14 children of Peter and Eva Ann (Wagner) Blum (and the only one born in Germany) who came to Philadelphia, Pa. September 15, 1752 on the ship Two Brothers, Thomas Arnot, Commander.
The family settled in Alexandria Township, Hunterdon County, N. J. The other children of Peter Blum were: Adam, Peter, Abraham, born 179, Jacob born 1774, Christopher born 1779, Samuel, Eva Ann 1764, Ann Maria, born 1771, Margaret and Mary. (added on the side are Herbert 1767 and Paulus 1772). These were born in New Jersey and all are named in the will of Peter Blum except Paulus who prob died young. Peter Blum was born in 1731 and died May 1 1814. His wife Eva Ann was born 1734 and died 1796. He names his wife Sarah, who was his second, but Eva Ann was the mother of his children.
William Bloom removed from New Jersey about 1785 to Potter Township, Cumberland County, PA. (then) but now in Center County. His name was in the Assessor’s list in Potter Township in 1801. In that year he completed his removal to what became Pike Township, Clearfield County, having previously brought some of his older children to start his improvement.
Early in 1778 he married Mary Mettler, also of Hunterdon County, N. J. She was born Feb. 8, 1756. Seven sons and four daughters were born to them.
Ann, born Oct 31, 1778, married Thomas Price
Isaac, born Aug. 10 1780 who married Sarah Apgar.
William Jr. born April 17, 1782, who married Mary Roll
Elizabeth, born August 23, 1784, who married Matthew Ogden
John, born January 25, 1786, who married Susannah High
Peter, born Feb. 7, 1789, who married Mary McElhatten
Benjamin, born Dec. 31, 1790, who married Sarah McClure
Mary, born September 25, 1792, who married Matthew Caldwell
Sarah, born June 30 (?) 1796, who married Richard Rowles
James, born Feb. 28, 1798, who married Mary Ann Passmore.

During the Revolutionary War he served for sometime in the ranks but we have no means of ascortaining the length of time.
The place of his settlement in Clearfield County is within the limits of the Borough of Curwensville, and known as the Irvin Farm. He later moved to a tract of land South of the West Branch of the Susquehanna River, near the present village of Bloomingon. He died May 4, 1828 and his wife on Aug 4, 1827. Both are buried in McClure Cemetery, Pike Township, Clearfield County., PA. Their graves are marked. His was a D. A. R. marker which is quite rusty, indicating long exposure to the weather. The above is the story revised and enlarged as found in “Aldrich’s Clearfield County” 1887, pages 58 and 631. Other references to the services of William Bloom in the Revolutionary War are fond in the “Commemorative Biographical Record of Central Pennsylvania” covering Center, Clearfield, Jefferson and Clarion Counties. Beers, Chicago 1898, on pages 681, 727, 753, 889, 842, 1005, 1623. Also 10 Century Histaory of Clearfield County, Swoops 1911, pages 485 and 750. Also in the History of Northumberland County, PA. In 1904 Clearfield County celebrated its Centenial. A number of things pertaining to the early days of the people of the County were exibited. It is said that among them was the paper showing the discharge of William Bloom from the Revolutionary Army. Efforts to locate this paper have not been successful.
